Considered as the second oldest University of Japan, Kyoto University came into existence as Kyoto Imperial University in the year of 1897. One among the “National Seven” of Japan, it took birth on the ancient former capital of the nation, Honshu.

Located in Kyoto, Japan, it comprises 3 campuses- central campus called ‘Yoshida’, Katsura and Uji. Initially, the university comprised colleges of medicine, letters, law, engineering and science. Today, Kyoto has more than 15 graduate schools, around 10 faculties, and more than 10 research Institutes- maximum among Japanese universities. Some of the primary major areas include- agriculture, engineering, economics, science, medicine, law, energy science and education. Teaching staff of Kyoto includes more than 1000 faculty members – experts in their fields and dedicated to impart knowledge through different mediums to students.

The university enrolls more than 20,000 students every year in its undergraduate and graduate programs of study. Out of which, around 2,000 international students get admitted in the university. Kyoto has always been popular for its research excellence. Home to around 10 Nobel Prize winners, 1 Gauss Prize recipient and two field medalists, Kyoto University produces world-class researchers.

The university also works on Hakubi Project, introduced in 2009 in order to develop and hone the skills of outstanding young researchers. Kyoto has been regarded as the best research university in Japan, by Thomson Reuters. Its research excellence is primarily commendable in Immunology, Chemistry, Pharmacology and Physics among others.
