As early as CE (Common Era) 258, the Nanjing University had been established. The Nanjing University or Nanking University is a public research university. It is situated in Nanjing, China and was founded as Nanking Taihsueh in CE 258. It is one of most prestigious and oldest institutions of higher learning and education in China.

For China, it laid the foundation of the modern educational system and was the first modern university. Earlier, it was known as the National Central University and post establishment in the year 1902 of People’s Republic of China, the university got its present name. The funding of the university is done by Ministry of Education, China, Jiangsu provincial governments and donations from other institutions. It has affiliations with C9 league, Yangtze Delta Universities Alliance, and Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU). It has 2 campuses- one is Xianlin campus situated near the shores of Yangtze River and other is Gulou campus.

It offers academic degree in various subjects like medicine, business, engineering, education, and agriculture. In 2014/15, the university had 33899 students and 2000 staff. Some eminent alumni of this university are Wang Yifang, Chung- Yao Chao, Y. H. Woo, Chiang Yee, and Feng Kang.
