The National Tsing Hua University abbreviated as NTHU is a public research university founded in the year 1911. It is situated in Hsinchu City, Republic of China. The university was founded in Beijing primarily but was shifted in the year 1956 to Hsinchu City after the Chinese Civil War.

It comprises of 18 independent graduate institutes, 17 departments, and 7 colleges. Various faculties are taught here, conferring degrees of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate. The subjects in which these degrees are awarded are science, engineering, life sciences, computer science, humanities, and art. General education curricula are under the expert supervision of The Commission for General Education.

In 2014/15, 11942 students were enrolled here with a count of 644 faculty members. Out of the total strength of the students, 5% were international students. Various alumni of NTHU who have become noteworthy for their contribution to their fields are Chen Yinke- a historian and linguist, Tsung-Dao Lee- Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Nancy Tang Chang- one of the founding members of the US biotech company Tanox, Hua Luogeng- an educator and mathematician, and Xia Nai- an archaeologist.

It has affiliations with Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU) and University system of Taiwan. It has a financial endowment of $17. 15 million. The university supports international and interdisciplinary collaboration projects in research. In the recent years, the university has invited many corporations like Novatek Microelectronics Corp., Delta Electronics Inc., and Mediatek Inc., for joint research centers on campus. Citation of research papers of NTHU in highly acclaimed researches worldwide has increased by 56% in the recent years.
