Considered as the most comprehensive institution for higher education in New Jersey, Rutgers University came into existence in 1766. Founded in the city of New Brunswick, New Jersey, the University also counts as one among the ‘Colonial Colleges’ that took birth before the period of American Revolution. After acquiring the name of Rutgers College in the year 1825, it was granted the status of University in 1924.

Rutgers is spread over 3 campuses in New Jersey - The New Brunswick Campus, Camden Campus and Newark Campus. Enrolling more than 60,000 students from more than 100 countries over its campuses, the University offers numerous courses and myriad options from undergraduate to doctoral degree level students.

Rutgers offers around 100 bachelors, over 90 masters and more than 70 professional and doctoral degree programs spread over 170 academic departments, over 25 degree-granting colleges and schools, 15 out of which specialize in graduate programs. Some of the schools include- Graduate School of Education, Medical School, Engineering School, School of Arts and Sciences and School of Social Work among others. The University also offers more than 10 online degree programs at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

The academic staff of more than 7500 full-time faculty members and over 10,000 full -time staff helps and advises students in academic as well as industrial matters. Facilities of Rutgers across the campuses comprise botanical gardens, theaters, golf course, museums, helipads and studios among others.

The living alumni network of more than 480,000 represents the university in almost all 50 states. Being a reputed research University and also a member of the Alliance of Big Ten, the university has educated many prominent personalities including- Nobel Prize winners Selmen A. Waksman and Milton Friedman.
