The Scuola Normale Superiore De Pisa or SNS (As it is often abbreviated for ease of use), is a public university in Pisa, Italy. Established in the year 1810, It is one of the members of the grandes ѐcoles or Scuola Superiore Universitaria (Superior Graduate School) and among three special- statute universities sanctioned officially. It was established in 1810 by a Napoleonic decree during the period of French Revolution.

The campus of the institute is situated in its pristine historical building of Palazzo della Carovana in Piazza dei Cavalieri. The educational system is divided into 2 strata of the undergraduate program and doctoral program. The undergraduate program is further divided into graduate and postgraduate programs. Education and research are closely intertwined in all the programs at SNS which is an extremely significant quality of the system. SNS was the first university to introduce a doctoral program in Italy.

Post- doctoral grants are provided to winners of competitions who then work with the best of the researchers of Italy and the world. In addition to this, there are many exchange agreements of SNS with Oxford, UCLA, Ecole Normale Superieure, and NYU, under which students can avail of it and spend periods abroad on some framework conventions. In 2014/15, the university had 51500 students and more than 2290 staff. Some of the alumni are Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, Leonida Tonelli, Enrico Fermi, Giosúe Carducci, and Pietro Citati.
