Founded in 1855, ETH Zurich was started by Swiss Federal Government with an aim to educate scientists and engineers for nation building and serve as a center for dialog between the industries and the scientific community. ETH has expanded its World Food System Center and Zurich Information Security and Private Center. It has already established professorships in Physical Activity and Health and Sustainable Food Processing. ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule), Zurich, also known as Swiss Federal Institute of Technology is situated in Zurich, Switzerland and is a science, mathematics, and engineering university.
In 2014/15, the university had 19200 students and 503 academicians. It has an endowment of $1.62 billion. Theoretical aspects of degree programs are more in focus than application part of it with even more emphasis on mathematical training. Students studying at ETH Zurich are the busiest lot with tight curriculum and busy schedule of activities. It has a cosmopolitan outlook with roots in national development and it is one of the major forces behind the industrialization of Switzerland.
It is one of the members of the CESAER (Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research) network, IDEA (Imperial College, London; Delft University of Technology, Netherlands; ETH Zurich, Switzerland; and RWTH or Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen University, Germany) league and the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU).
