The Technion was founded under the Ottoman Empire in 1912, 35 years before the establishment of the State of Israel. It is a public research university situated in Haifa, Israel. It is the oldest university of Isreal and is very selective. It has 60 research centers, 19 academic departments, and 12 teaching hospitals affiliated with it. The language of instruction at the university principally is Hebrew.

Degrees in architecture, medicine, education, science, industrial management, and engineering are awarded by the institute. An endowment of $ 1.6 billion and affiliation from Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research (CESAER) is with the university. Peretz Lavie, Technion’s current president is one among the 100 most influential people according to the national newspaper of Israel- TheMarker. 100,000 degrees have been awarded since its foundation.

In 2014/15, the university had 14000 students and 620 faculty members. A strength of 4% of the total count of students were occupied by students from abroad. To name a few of the noteworthy people who studied here- Arieh Warshel (Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry-2013), Shmuel Zaks (Mathematician), Rachel Shalon (Israel’s first woman engineer), Yaakov Dori (President), and Asher Peres (Rothschild Prize winner in Physics- 2004).
