Located in Turkey, Middle East Technical University was founded in 1956. Specializing in social and natural sciences, the university’s first academic programme specialized in architecture. Located in Ankara, Turkey, the university started with 2 small buildings.

Spread over 11,000 acres of land, the university is today organized into 5 faculties- Engineering, Administrative Sciences, Science, Education, and Arts. The main campus located in Ankara resembling a forest surrounded with the lake Eymir. In addition to the central campus, METU has other campuses in Erdemli situated in Mersin, primarily used by the department of marine sciences. The university recently introduced an international campus known as North- Cyprus campus. Also, it provides a facility of METU-CAM- comprising 6 web cams across the different campuses in order to allow students to stream live footage of lectures.

The university offers over 90 masters and around 60 doctoral programs across 5 graduate schools. Graduate Schools include- School of Informatics, School of Social Sciences, School of Marine Sciences, School of Informatics and School of applied mathematics. The University is home to over 1000 international students from around 75 countries across the globe. The academic full-time staff comprising more than 700 experts in their respective areas make sure to deliver the knowledge not confined to books.

The university’s other facilities include the first research and science development park in Turkey. Popularly called as METU Technopolis and situated in the central campus, the park aims to work as a hub for start-ups.

Living alumni network of over 120,000 represent the university across the globe. Prominent personalities associated with the University include Abdullah Atalar, the Economist Alev Alatli, journalist Amir Farshad Ebrahimi and Ali Babcan among others.

Owing to the excellent academic research and education that focuses on merit and quality in cultural, scientific and intellectual studies, the university has become one of the most prestigious Universities in Turkey.
