Instituted in the year 1477, Uppsala is the oldest university in Sweden. But it wasn’t until the end of 16th century that the University gained momentum and huge financial support from the then king Gustavus Adolphus. Today, the university stands as one of the oldest in Europe and has been a major attributor of cultural significance to the country.

Uppsala University has 9 faculties falling under three broad disciplinary categories. The three major domains that it covers are Humanities & Social Science, Pharmaceutical & Medical Science & Technology Science.

Uppsala University caters to more than 40,000 students today, and has been providing brilliant academic experience to each one. Students from various part of the world flock here, which is the major reason why 19% of the student strength is of international candidates. Apart from providing graduate, post grad and research level degrees, the university believes in gathering knowledge from every nook and corner of the world. It has given the world Noble laureates like Georg Wittig, Günter Blobel, Adolf Butenandt, and many more.
